E-Sports Platform Gamerji Raises Funding From Lead Angels Investors

Gamerji, an Ahmedabad based e-Sports platform founded by Soham Thacker, have raised an undisclosed amount in their ongoing seed funding round from Lead Angels. India’s first privately owned angel investor firm in India founded in 2014.

Gamerji had raised $400,000 from a Gujrati firm called “La Gajjar Group” in the friends and family round of funding, and they also had investors from the technology venture fund Unicorn Ventures, who also invested an undisclosed amount in Gamerji in the seed funding round in December.

Sushanto Mitra, CEO of Lead Angels Network had this to say in a public statement. “ With online gaming coming of age in India and 190 million gamers in India, we see a tremendous opportunity ahead as the company scales up its reach.”

Soham Thacker founded the company in 2019, when as a gamer he could see the tremendous opportunity in the market. Currently, Gamerji markets themselves as an eSports platform that conducts daily tournaments for a host of different games including Clash Royale, Call of Duty, Free Fire, and many more.

Gamerji offers integration of API’s of the games, and allows users to view all their gaming stats in one spot. It further allows them to create an eSports ladder based on the rankings of the players, and allows tournaments to be created and shared, such that the registration fees is taken directly from the participants, and the prize fund is also deposited directly to the winner. This is an easier fix than the previous solution of organizing tournaments on Facebook and Youtube.

“Small Organizers can use our standardised packages to create tournaments, while we work with large influencers on a revenue share model.” said Thacker, “ The platform also has a subscriber base of over 1 million gamers, who can all participate in the daily free tournaments.

Gamerji claims to currently have a subscriber base of 1.3 million users to date, and they host almost 80 matches on a daily basis, half of which are organized by social media influencers or organizers, and the company has tied with 200 influencers in eSports.

“There is very little knowledge for amateur and semi-professional gamers in India to grow. This is how the idea of conducting daily tournaments came into focus, for people who might want to participate in small money games,” said Thacker, prompting the need for having daily gaming tournaments where avid gamers can even make some money from gaming.

Globally there are platforms such as Toornament, who are already in this market, and let game publishers conduct tournaments using their platform. India has platforms like MPL (Mobile Premier League) who are looking to grow the number of eSports on their platform with recently acquired growth funding.
