Puducherry Chief Minister Calls for Ban on Online Rummy in the Union Territories

Puducherry Chief Minister Calls for Ban on Online Rummy

Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy (pictured) has revealed he has urged the Union government to impose a ban on online rummy.

Following the suicide of a 39-year-old man who allegedly lost Rs. 40 Lakhs playing online rummy, the Chief Minister said he had got more representations from the public to ban online rummy in the Union Territory.

Narayanasamy said his government had already taken steps to ban online lotteries and had arrested several people. But the state government does not have the power to ban online rummy and so had written to Union Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

As online rummy's popularity continues to soar, many state governments and public figures have urged it to be outlawed.

Andhra Pradesh has flirted with banning online rummy for the last few years, a Karnataka MP recently repeated calls for an online rummy ban, and Dr S. Ramadoss is another to call for action against the game.
