The crime branch unit 3 of the Pune city police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly running a betting racket in the city during the India-Pakistan cricket match from the entrance of a pub off the Raja Bahadur Mills road in the city. The accused bookie has been identified as Shripad Yadav (24), a resident of Akurdi. Police said, when crime branch officers were patrolling in the Kothrud region, they got a tip-off that the accused was standing near Demora pub. Police laid a trap and arrested him.
Police said the bookie used an online platform to manage and accept the bets. Several expensive cellphones and gadgets have been seized by the Police. Additional commissioner of police (crime) Ramnath Pokale told TOI, “We have arrested the bookie, Shripad Mohan Yadav (24). He had been booked by the Pimpri Chinchwad police in betting cases. We are searching for the main bookie in the case. The police are also probing how Yadav had shifted his base to Pune from Pimpri Chinchwad.
A case against the arrested bookie was registered with the Bund Garden police station.
